BlackBerry 10 boot up screen leakedWe've seen tidbits of BlackBerry 10 here and there, enough to know that the OS will be different in many ways than say BlackBerry 7. But merely being different from the current BlackBerry OS is not going to cut it this time. BlackBerry 10 is going to have to have a few features that make you say, "Wow!" involuntarily. Merely matching Android will not do the trick for RIM. Not this time, not with so much at stake.

We happen to have a picture that allegedly shows the first "L" series model of BlackBerry 10 getting booted up. As you can tell by the percentage indicator on the screen, this is going to be a much different look than what you see booting up your BlackBerry 7 device. Not that you would want to see the boot up screen that often.

RIM is still on track to launch BlackBerry 10 in the first quarter of 2013. And everything needs to go smoothly without a repeat of the BlackBerry Storm 9530 launch debacle that saw huge number of Verizon customers buy the device thinking that it would approach the Apple iPhone in quality and functionality. Instead, the OS was half-baked out of the box, the accelerometer was balky and the browser was slow. The device did not support Wi-Fi and the SurePress QWERTY, which was designed to make the user feel that he was typing on real keyboard buttons, was a flop. But that was under the old regime. Thorsten Heins and crew knows that this is RIM's last shot at turning things around and remaining a relevant name in the smartphone world.
