We knew that the LG Nexus 4 would have wireless charging available, and now we're seeing how Google plans to make that happen. Along with the Nexus 4 announcement, Google has shown off the Wireless Charging Orb for the device, although as yet there is no release date or pricing available. As The Verge notes, the Wireless Charging Orb looks quite a bit like the Palm Touchstone, which of course isn't really a surprise. Matias Duarte was the mind behind a lot of design at Palm, and he has been slowly bringing in those ideas to Android. We've already seen the addition of swipe gestures, and various "cards" throughout the Android OS, so we're assuming the design of the Wireless Charging Orb is just one more bit of work from Matias.
The Orb itself is angled, so you can still see the display and use your phone if you need to, and the phone will stay in place because of magnets in both the handset and the Orb. You will even be able to orient the phone in either portrait or landscape mode as you prefer.
Google has also confirmed that the LG Nexus 4 is using the Qi wireless charging standards, so any charging station that uses that standard should work, including the wireless charging stations for Nokia Lumia devices.
